Regionals (4-2)
April 2, 2009 @ 3:45 p.m. by Joannaby joanna
I’ve got softball regionals below and J. Long will add baseball regionals. In softball, I would imagine that Andale’s pretty happy. But Andover Central ends up with Carroll, Ark City and Valley Center.
I’m sure I’m missing some that will be talkers, but I know I was most looking forward to what happened in 5A with Central and Andale moving up.
That 4A regional at Clearwater is absolutely ridiculous. I mean, Clearwater, Augusta, Rose Hill, Mulvane, Independent? That is beyond unbelievable. I think it might be worse than last year’s.

WOW!!! I knew it wouldn’t be good for A. Central, but once again Andale get’s the breaks. Your right JoAnn the 4A regional at Clearwater is worse than last years Douglass regoinal. Who would have thought that would be possiable.

Well once again a league that should send multiple entrants to State will battle it out and only send one! There has to be some logic used when picking these Regionals and so far the last two years I can’t fathom it.

“but once again Andale get’s the breaks.”
If you are a 4A school west of Wichita you typically get the breaks! Wellington has been the recipient of such good luck for years in football.

Andale is a talented bunch. However, Salina South has some sticks as well as decent pitching, Great Bend is tough at their place, and after watching what the Newton bunch looked like against NW & Derby, Andale won’t just walk through that regional. They’ll have to work for it.

I agree with StormWarning. Andale has a long way to go before even thinking about State. They need to get that talent on the field and in the right positions or they won’t have a chance getting to State. I think we need to concentrate on winning a few games and not get ahead of ourselves. It will be fun watching the young athlete’s no matter what happens. Good luck to all and hope everyone stays healthy!!

Softballfan you are absolutely right about Andale. The season is just starting. This team is a different team from last year with players in new roles. Time will tell if they will come together the way last year’s team did. As far as talent goes, they are as deep as any High School team in the area, but do not hold your breath that all of that talent will find the field let alone get into the right position.
There are some very good match ups today and on Monday that should start to answer some of the questions:
Friday
Ark City vs Maize
Salina Central vs Newton
Monday
Andover Central vs Andale
Clearwater vs Augusta
Wichita Ind. vs Great Bend
Tuesday
Ark City vs Derby

6A. I hope Derby, Maize & Goddard get a regional. They have nice facilitiies and TRYC is getting old. City League softball is bad except for NW. Derby, Maize, NW and Goddard will battle for the 3 spots.
5A. Watch out for Salina South, Newton and Andale. (at least Andale will have to travel). Ark City will battle BC.
4A. Take Clearwater, Rosehill and Independent leave all the other teams at home.
3A. I don’t know. Cheer for Collegiate. They have a few very good players.

Really? and the Clearwater regional gets RH, Independent, Clearwater, Mulvane and Augusta? Ridiculous. a potential 4-5 matchup being Clearwater and RH? Or Augusta/RH? pathetic one of those five teams are going home in the first round.
