The high school sports season of 2008-09 is officially over. Unbelievable, huh?

6:52 P.M. — The final update for the day.

Class 6A

• The most exciting finish of the day was definitely the last race of the night, the 6A boys 4×4 relays. Maize’s Mike Flores was just dog tired running the final leg for the Eagles, but he was dead even with his competitor entering the final 50 meters. They were even in the last 10 then Flores took a leap of faith – diving across the finish line to dramatically edge out the state title for Maize by less than half a second. Insane. Flores stayed down for almost a minute after the race – tired, exhaused, drained. But a state champion.

Marion sophomore Julia Zeiner won the Class 3A girl’s long jump with a jump of 18-1 on her second-to-last jump.

Molly Milbourn, of El Dorado, added to her hardware on the day with a Class 4A 800-meter win with a time of 2:19.64.

Andover Central 1600-meter relay team of Stephanie Ginther, Lynsey Fortune, Kelsey Banwart and Tiffany Bias won the event in Class 5A with a time of 3:58.35.

Adam Porter of McPherson used that amazing kick of his to win the Class 5A 800-meter run in a time of 1:55.11.

Bishop Carroll senior Kyle Long won the Clas 5A 300-meter hurdles with a time of 38.68. He grabbed the lead early and never let it go.

Tiffany Bias, a junior from Andover Central, won the Class 5A’s 400-meter dash in a time of 56.42.

The Newton 400 relay team of Isaiah Thaw, Nathaniel Martens, Miguel Johns and Grant Loescher won the Class 5A 4×1 relays with a time of 42.37.

Maize junior Dani Walker grabbed an early lead in the Class 6A girl’s 800-meter run and held off the competitors with a time of 2:17.19.
