Mulvane vs Rose Hill was another classic. Both teams played great defense and it came down to who made the first mistake. Both teams return most of their starters and will be senior laden next season, so expect both to be the talk of 4A next season!

Mulvane Baseball beat Clearwater and then Wichita Independent for the Regional Championship. The championship game was a close one, Mulvane holding off a 6-4 lead. Mulvane’s pitching was fantastic with Parton going the distance against Clearwater and Strunk/Higgins combo against WI. Congrats Men!!!!

Derby beat Goddard 7-6. Both teams deserve to go to state. This bracket was much tougher than the Heights bracket. Should rank teams on strength of schedule not meaningless wins over north, south, east, west & southeast. AVCT-1 is much tougher than the City League. Although NW is a good team. Heights will get blown away at state again.

El Dorado 3-15 going in beats 16-2 Haven and is headed to 4A girls softball state tournament. I bet Clearwater, Independent, Mulvane and Augusta love that one. Just goes to show you that the bottom feeders in the AV-CTL 4A teams are better than anyone else around the area.

Anyone have results from the regional sites at El Dorado and or Pratt for 4A Baseball?
I’ve got 6 state qualifiers so far:
Bishop Ward, Topeka Hayden, Ottawa, Mulvane, Girard, and Louisburg.
Just need the last 2.

it doesnt matter what your record is, all that matter is that you come and play your best and give everything you’ve got to make it to state.
Also the Derby and Goddard game was exciting!
Sammie Shook with the winning homerun!
Both teams had great defense! Some amazing plays tonight!
But Derby had hits when it mattered the most!!
Derby worked hard and never gave up with giving up 4 runs in the 1st inning!!
Congrats Derby!!

4a baseball should be Ward, Mulvane, ottawa, louisburg, circle, girard, hayden and the pratt regional winner
4a softball is abilene, rose hill, riverton, ottawa, iola, pratt, ward, el dorado. (i think that is in correct order, although im not sure how they would break a tie between abilene and rh)

Disapointed, sorry you aren’t happy with the way things worked out in the softball regionals. Can’t we get past that old complaint about how KSHAA sets these up. I realize that sometimes deserving teams don’t make it to state this way in all sports. that doesn’t mean that the other teams aren’t deserving as well. They won their regional. That is the determining factor. Maybe there is a committee or something you could help with to make a change at KHSAA.

Hey scooter, your team must have won or maybe they were in a weak reagional. I don’t care what you say, any time you have a regional that’s loaded with teams with winning records and then you have one with losing records and one or two good teams it’s not right. Sure it makes for a good regional like Clearwater was, but that’’s what the State tournament is for.

Good luck at State El Dorado. It will be a tough road for you but you did earn it fairly so we shouldnt take away what the girls earned. Sometimes fate deals you good cards. It does suck that the best teams had to kill each other to get one of themselves there. Rose Hill will need some offense to go with that defense and pitching. Allowing 2 runs is awesome but only scoring 4 runs is just as concerning. Good Luck to Rose Hill they represent the best division in 4A softball in the State!!

33 inning scoreless streak is amazing. However, this is one reason why softball is so much different than baseball. Never in today’s game could a baseball pitcher go more than 10 innings in a row without several days off, let alone 33! One awesome player can totally take over and carry a team in softball (I know it takes a “team”). I wish there were pitching limitations in softball.

Disapointed,
Derby will get blown away at state also. I think the area around Wichita is in trouble. Derby is no exception. Outside of Wichita NW, the area has teams with 1-2 studs on thier teams. Appearantly Goodard is not deserving to go to state, b/c if they were then they would of won…..right? You have got to be a proud Derby parent huh?
Yeah the City League is terrible, so is the Ark Valley since both of them have came back with how many State Titles? NW in 1999.
1999? Ever since then it has been the Kansas City area. So my friend Derby, NW, Heights are all in trouble at State. Your Ark Valley league has never sniffed state titles. The best chance this year would be NW.
NW beat Derby this year, and Carroll beat Maize twice. That was the closest to ARk Valley knocking off the top City League teams. MY friend they all are in trouble.
Go Derby I guess………..since they are so good at everything……no
Coming from Heights fan, I enjoyed watching Heights beat Derby in Volelyball this year too.

bluegray…..heights beat derby in volleyball agreed…..and i was not there but heard about several questionable calls in that game and one being a crucial mistake that would have cost heights the last game sending Derby to state, (by a line judge that was a former heights coach??) This info came from a Heights parent by the way. Not saying Heights didn’t deserve to go….they were very good. But before you start slamming teams and leagues around the area you might want to think about the young ladies playing. It is not their fault they are in one league or another…..They are ALL giving it their best and winning when it counts is what matters. Goddard was good enough to make it to state….things didnt go their way that night. Derby is also good enought to represent as is Heights and Northwest…..Good Luck to ALL area teams and go kick some KC butt and shut these whiners up!!

Good Luck at state Mulvane baseball. Topeka Haden will be tough, but other than that team you already played and beat the best competition in the state in your regional.
Clearwater and Independent were, without question, two of the top four teams in the state and you beat them both. Hats off to you.
Obviously the KSHSAA is not concerned that virtually nobody thinks the current regional system is fair. (Except maybe the sub .500 teams that get to go to the state tournament.) You should have been playing both of those teams in the state tournament.

I believe in Karma…it is a long trip is Salina from El Dorado and they don’t even have a chance to be even competitive. My prediction on the game:
Abilene 10 El Dorado 0
Abilene pitcher will have 20 Ks, 0 Walks, will allow only one hit.
That will be lots of fun for El Dorado. Karma

I believe Derby was in the title game in 6a softball just two years ago and lost to Olathe East and finished 4th the year before that so I would say they have ’sniffed’ it.
And the Ark Valley is a solid league with some pretty good compitition. Do I think any of the teams in 6a are going to make a run at the title? No I don’t but I bet they won’t be scared of any of the teams from the KC area. Most of the players from these area teams compete against those girls from the KC area all summer long, been there…done that…
You people can crack on Derby and all the teams going to state from this area if you want but they are going and you are not… that is called SCOREBOARD!!

to play their best and quit all this bashing of these young girls.

I believe Winfield and Arkansas City and Augusta have multiple state titles in softball out of the AV-CTL.
As for 6A, its wide open this year. Olathe NE may be undefeated, but they are beatable and for the first time in many moons, Olathe East does not have a quality Division I pitcher on the mound.
BTW, the pitcher from Olathe East who beat Derby in that state finals throws for Nebraska, and the Derby pitcher in that game throws for Baylor.

Bluegray213,
who are you to say that any teams around here don’t have a chance. I believe Heights NW and Derby both have a very good chance of going far. They all have very talented girls and have you watched any of them play this year? they all have amazing young ladies who can play the game. they all have players that play against kc teams all summer long. and i know for a fact can take those teams up there and have beat them easily. let’s just see how it all goes down next weekend HOPEFULLY you will be proven wrong and feel completely dumb for saying that.

NW is a GREAT team and have a good chance at a state title!!GO NW!
Also NW only beat Derby by 1 this year..they are both are great teams!
Derby is good at all sports..they may not be the best but are always good at what they do in any sport!
