I know things get heated on this blog when it comes to softball. But this story, from denverpost.com, is crazy.

Perry Ellis, a rising sophomore at Heights, received a scholarship offer from the University of Kentucky said his mother, Fonda Ellis.
John Calipari, Kentucky’s new basketball coach, also offered Ellis while coaching at Memphis last season.
The 6-foot-8 Ellis is the reigning Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year averaging 19.2 points and 11.7 rebounds as a freshman.
This should have been expected. Calipari was going hard for Ellis at Memphis. It’s only fitting that he’d do the same at Kentucky, where the tradition and resources are more abundant.
Let’s not get ahead of ourselves here. I don’t expect Ellis to make a commitment this early. And even if he does, it doesn’t take much for a coveted recruit to make a move elsewhere. If you don’t believe me, look at what’s going down with Xavier Henry, a top-recruit in this year’s class.

I’m a day or two late on getting this started. Sorry. Here’s a topic that might get you started talking. If it doesn’t, feel free to write whatever the heck you want about football and how much you miss it and how much life is going to be better when it’s back on the weekly schedule.

Although the National Federation of State High School associations is allowing instant replay on last-second shots that decide a state game at the end of regulation or overtime, the KSHSAA won’t be allowing it.

I’ve got a story going in Wednesday’s paper about how Collegiate, which won’t be in a league after the 2009-10 school year because eight teams pulled out of the MCAA, was denied a league assignment hearing.

The KSHSAA is having a sports public address announcers clinic. Yep, you, too, can be a better PA guy or learn to be one.

My 4-year-old told his coach last night that he didn’t want to play third base for the second straight inning. Said he’d be fine at pitcher.

Got some e-mails today, one touting Kim Jerrick, a first baseman from the Mustangs. This writer said he hadn’t seen her play before, but said she was tough. Also got an e-mail about the Mustangs.
