Manny Ramirez is back with the Dodgers after a 50-game suspension. He’s one of the leading All-Star vote-getters.

Do people just not care about athletes taking steroids anymore? Is everyone tired of hearing about it?

Isn’t it also ridiculous that he played the last 10 games of his suspension in the minors. That doesn’t sound like the full punishment to me. Why not just call it a fouty game suspension.

MLB’s enforcement of its drug testing policies is a joke. In the NFL, if you violate the rules, you are not allowed anywhere near team facilities until the commissioner says you can return. No meetings, no practice, no weights, no nothing. Work out on your own, eat on your own.

I don’t think he played his last 10 games in the minors, It was like 2 or 3. He also didn’t make the all start game. I think they have a pretty strict policy. He got suspended 50 games for one failed test, thats almost 1/3 of the season.

Yea, the NFL puts the hammer on you if you break the rules, but golly gosh, they definitely turn a blind eye to PEDs

I dont even think he should be able to participate in the allstar game. He was banned for 50 games…50 games where his stats didnt improve. I would me ticked if I was the first one left out of the game if Manny was allowed to play

so tired of this subject and i cant see why some put so much energy into being offended. There are so many much worse things athletes do and people could care less but a cat breaks the rules to make himself better and he gets killed. I dont think most fans really care to be honest but its the issue to jump on for now. Anyone who thinks a great % of guys didnt do something to get and edge you are just lieing to yourself. move on please !

We should be testing for steroids in high school. That is where the problem starts. As for professional sports, steroid testing should be mandatory for every player and done monthly year round. If an athlete refuses he is treated the same as if he/she tested positive. If anyone tests positive the penalties should be severe, including criminal prosecution if possible. All records held by anyone who is found to have used steroids at anytime should be taken out of the record books.
There are many jobs in America that have mandatory drug testing.

bbfan we will send you the bill. There is 0% chance of the state being able to afford to test anywhere close to every kid. They cant even afford to provide a quality education or sports programs. On the pro level there are drugs that cant even be tested for so thats not going to clean up much even if you could get the labor unions to go along with it. Dont missunderstand me im not saying any athletes should be allowed to use illegal drugs but what you suggest is just not possible. One other problem you run into is not all socalled “banned” substances are illegal which to me is ridiculous . It you can buy something over the counter i cant see it being banned but im sure thats a whole different arguement. Oh and you would have to delete all records for the last 20plus years to apply your thinking and then what about “greenies” they took in the 70,s ?People dont want to consider those guys cheaters but the fact is if your taking uppers your cheating compared to those who are not.Where do you stop ? Set the rules and move on is the only viable option in reality.

Nor is there any indication that it’s needed!

  11. bbfan says:

KSfootball- I agree there is no chance it will happen. And I agree that if something is legal it should not be banned.

I also no that deleting records is not going to happen. I also agree that they need to establish rules and move on. I guess I pretty much agree with everything you said.

My point was just that a lot of people still consider it an issue and feel that those that can conclusively be found to have used steroids should be punished.

I do think it is possible to have limited testing in high school.

bucocatfan- I disagree that there is no indication that it is needed. There is strong evidence, including statements from former athletes, that in some programs it is a huge problem.

No I will not name names or point at specific programs on this blog.

I think they have limited testing now but its very limited. I have spoken to kids who wished they did have testing just to shut up some who talk junk and spread rumors .

High school kids? If so, show me the evidence. As others have pointed out on the message boards, the regiment required to gain any advantage from roids is so extensive and expensive it would be nearly impossible for most kids to carry it out. Now I do believe, lots of kids will say they are using but it was the same about illegal drugs back in the 70’s. The ones who bragged about it were in fact non-users. Roid use by teenagers is an urban legend on any kind of scale and nothing would suggest testing is needed.

  14. bbfan says:

    Yes, high school kids.
The idea that using steroids is expensive is a myth. A high school kid can buy everything they need, over the internet, for under $1500. That would get more than enough to add 20-25 pounds of muscle to an average kid and all the advantages that go with it.
To get those results would require only a standard workout that an athlete would already be doing.

Like I said before, I will not name names or programs on this blog.

buco “myth” i went to high school and college with a steroid user so unless he was the only kid in the state/country id say its more then a myth. bbfan is exactly correct and i promise you there are kids out there on many things such as steriods.there are plenty of kids that can drop $1500 on drugs on many kinds. I have noticed that you are out of touch on many subjects on here. Im not trying to start anything but maybe living where they allow real fireworks also has put you out of touch with the reality of high school sports.
