After striking out a couple of times earlier in the week, I finally got a hold of Hutchinson’s Cameron Sprague after practice today. He’s a senior at Hutchinson and he’s in my top-5 runners in this area, so you know he’s a stud. Sprague has placed every year at the Class 5A state meet in his career and he’s almost a lock for the top 5 this year.
But what is he aiming for? Is there a brewing rivalry with McPherson’s Adam Porter? Who’s his favorite character on Family Guy? These are the things I know everyone is interested in, so click the jump to find out the answers.

I saw on Twitter today — you can follow me at @joannachadwick — that Kansas State has made an offer to Spearville sophomore Willie Cauley, who is 6-foot-10.
His is a name I hadn’t heard last year, so I called his coach, Jerrod Stanford today.
Talk to Joanna and Jonathan later today.

Southeast took control of the City League title race Tuesday with a 2-0 win over East. Southeast is undefeated in the league with games against South and West remaining.
Though East was without one if its biggest offensive threats, Joseph Yun, Southeast did a great job of imposing its size on the Aces. East thrives in space and Southeast gave it none. Senior Manny Miranda did an outstanding job of making East’s Oliver Bradwell a non-factor.
In other City League news, Northwest shocked Kapaun Mount Carmel 4-1.
It’s a big week for area soccer on Tuesday with Trinity and Rose Hill meeting, as well as Hutchinson and Maize.

I went to Garden Plain last night for volleyball and was impressed with the Cheney fan following. What non-football sport’s fans are the most passionate?

There’s some great stories this season — Andover Central’s 23-0 start, Cheney’s 18-1 record despite losing two key players for most of the first half of the season, Kapaun Mount Carmel rebounding for a devastating loss to Bishop Carroll early on, Heights rebounding from losing so much of its 2008 team.
So who do you think is a team that should be watched? How about a player? What surprises have you seen?

I was out at Garden Plain tonight for volleyball, specifically to see Cheney play the Owls. It was a great crowd — Cheney brought quite a few and even had some Cardinal Crazies there. Always have to like that. I’ve sat through way too many quiet volleyball venues to not appreciate it.
Cheney swept Garden Plain and also got some good news.
