The Wichita area did represent on Saturday. Moundridge won the 2A volleyball title and  Collegiate took home the 3A volleyball title.

In cross country, the Carroll boys won the 5A title, Kapaun’s MacKenzie Maki won the 5A girls title and the Carroll boys took second.

The Mulvane boys won their third straight team title in 4A, while Valley Center’s Morgan Wedekind won the 4A girls title. Independent finished third in 3A boys.

Quite a weekend for the area. Congrats to everyone.

I’m the first to admit I’m not part of a generation that uses urbandictionary.com as its stylebook, but I have a question: Is “represent” now used as an intransitive verb, or is this a slip? I ask this sincerely, not facetiously, since I don’t know the answer, and like to be aware of language trends. My register of English would have to say “represent itself well” in order to be grammatical, but can the object and modifier now be omitted? Explanation, please.

I join in congratulating the area teams and athletes who excelled over the weekend.

I want to give congrats to the Sedgwick High Football team on getting to the playoffs. Led by two 1000 yard rushers in Wade Hansen and Trent Stucky. Sedgwick has been a program that is improving. 2 playoff births in the last 3 years after a 20 year drought. Congrats on a 7-2 regular season. Many communities have teams that are always at the top….fun to see a program from a town that has not had much success in football really enjoy a nice season. Great job boys!
