Today’s matchups

Lots of good games scheduled for today (and Saturday). I thought I’d give you guys a place to talk. No surprise, Hutchinson and Derby fans are out in full force. Anyone else want to join in? Feel free.
In 6A, Dodge City is at Derby. Derby played well last week, and that defense looked as I had expected it would. Dodge City comes in with a tough offense — Jace Banner at running back, plus a passing game.
Heights has a tough draw in Manhattan. The Falcons are playing well, though, and I’d be worried if I were Manhattan.
In 5A, Hutchinson travels to Salina South. Can’t imagine this not going Hutch’s way.
Emporia comes to Bishop Carroll, and that could be interesting. Mark Kolmer and Brandon Gentz are tough for Emporia, and a win over McPherson is impressive. Carroll is no slouch, though. I like this defense right now, and then there’s Blake Bell. Need we say more?
In 4A, Andale plays host to Topeka Hayden. I don’t know much about this Hayden team, expect it lost an awful lot of talent from its 2008 championship team, and has still had a good season. Andale is playing well, though, in all aspects.
Rose Hill at Buhler, a game I won’t even attempt to pick. This should be a great game, with great stars. Rose Hill has Tyler Shirley, Laqua Mayes, Derrick Decker, Dillon Rapp, while Buhler’s got Jorden Oden and Jake Reffner, and a tough, tough offensive line.
In 3A, Hutchinson Trinity travels to Norton. That’s going to be tough for Trinity, but after beating Conway Springs, I have complete faith in that team.
Scott City plays at Collegiate on Saturday at 3 p.m. Right now the game is scheduled to be at Collegiate — that could change. Maybe by Thursday we’ll know.
I love this matchup. I do. Scott City is a tough challenge for Collegiate, but I like how the Spartans have been playing. Great ball against quality opponents.
In 2-1A, Smith Center plays Meade. Both are undefeated, and the mantra continues — will this week be the end of the Smith Center streak?
In 8-Man 1, Pretty Prairie travels to Baileyville for the semifinals. Tough game. Baileyville’s a popular favorite to win the title.

They would most likely move the game for rain/weather issues as I don’t think they have a turf field.

I have seen Meade play twice this year and I think they will give Smith Center every thing they want. I am thinking this is the game where the streak ends. I think Meade is well coached, will be well prepared, and good enough to get the job done. Looking forward to the game.

If Meade doesn’t do it more than likely Oakley will if they get by a pretty good Ellis team.

The Collegiate field got destroyed after that rain storm and subsequent game a few games ago. They tried to fix it, but it is in terrible shape. Did they move the game to another location? It would probably be a good idea.

Haven’t seen Meade play this year, but since they are in our neck of the the woods, have seen a lot of media coverage.. If anybody can knock off Smith Center, it’s them. They’ve been very dominate over every one they’ve played.. Also Scott City is pretty tough, should be a helluva game with Collegiate

The Coalition to Ban Lou who? Which Lou…Lou Gehrig? Don’t worry, he’s already been banned 6ft. under. Lou Holtz? Wouldn’t worry about him either. He’s gettin close to going where the other Lou went. Lou Ferrigno? This one you might have alittle trouble with! He used to be the “Incredible Hulk!” Good-luck in your endeavor!

I believe Collegiate could have moved their game to Andover (turf field), but the seniors wanted a true home game.

Four Reno County teams still in the hunt. Best wishes to Hutch, Buhler, Trinity and Pretty Prairie! On Monday, there will be at least three left standing: Hutch, Buhler and Trinity. Pretty Prairie can beat Baileyville, but they have the toughest battle of all.
Can’t say enough about the incredible talent and respective coaching staffs in Reno County this year. Obviously, there’s plenty to go around.

Don’t get me wrong Cracker. I’d love to see PP knock off Bville. They will have their work cut out for them this weekend. Trinity did it last weekend against Conway, so it’s entirely possible. I’d be cautious going to the bank on this one. Bville is to 8-man what Hutch is to…well, there’s nothing quite like Hutch, but you get the idea.
