Update: Heights is opening the gates at 5 p.m. for the Derby-Heights game for tonight’s 6A semifinal.
It’s time for semifinals! I’ll be heading to Hutchinson to cover the Carroll-Hutch game. But I wish I could also be at Derby-Heights and be at Buhler at Hayden and then at Collegiate at Norton on Saturday. Oh well, you guys will just have to fill us in.
So any final thoughts, predictions from tonight’s semifinals? My picks to win are Hutchinson, Heights, Hayden and Collegiate. But the only game I would bet on — and I’m definitely not a betting person (too cheap) — is Carroll at Hutchinson.

I think that we are truly witnessing a special 5A group of football teams this Fall 2009. There are probably 3 5A teams that are the best in Kansas, any class.

I’ve thought the top 5A schools have been better than the top 6A schools for a few years now. Hutch coming down to 5A is just the icing on the cake.

I’m a bit of a homer but I have to go with Buhler over Hayden by 1 or 2 TDs. With our O-line I think Tanner Fisher will look like Jorden Oden out there.

Hey Jo, be sure to “razz” my buddy Cody up in the booth! He’s a Hutch guy doing color commentary for a local radio station there in Hutch. Be careful though, his dad is the “Head-Honcho” there in town!

As a Buhler High School Alum and father of Hutchinson grade school and HHS students, I couldn’t be more proud of these two teams. What an exciting season it’s been and to have both teams still in contention for state titles is a testament to the athletic talent in Reno County. Best wishes for victories to both teams. Go Salthawks and Crusaders!

Olathe North and Blue Valley are very good teams also. 6A has some good representation.

Olathe North and Blue Valley are great teams this year, no arguement. But they’re from the most populated county in the state. The likelyhood that one of the many schools in Johnson county will reach state is much higher than a rural county like Reno with a total of 65,000 in the entire county. Yet, Reno has 2 teams from two classes in contention for state title (as of today, prior to tonight’s upcoming games). If one were to consider a per capita talent level, Hutchinson area outclasses everyone this year. It is indeed a phenomenal year for Reno County football teams; Hutch, Buhler, Trinity Catholic and Pretty Prarie. It may be a long, long time before we see this happen again.

not so fast salthawk. carroll is a heck of a team. i wouldnt be suprised to see them keep it within 7-14 by the end. heck if the stars line up just right carroll might come out with a HUGE upset. but thats a big IF. wish i could be at both games though. should be a great night

i am sad to see carroll gestroyed, but i saw it coming carroll plays NOONE!!! i will not respect carroll untill they get a decent schedule. the way collegiate played gp and co. i believe they culd keep up with carroll

all the seniors who i’ve played with and grown up with coming out of the locker room for the last time and just literally breaking down on my shoulder. one of the hardest moments of my life. you guys dont have to prove anything to nobody.
