Here are my thoughts/predictions on next years vball teams that I’ve seen. Either they will be Stronger, Weaker or Stay the Same with regards to what each team has coming back vs who they lose to grad. Please weight in!
BC – Weaker
Kapaun – About the same
Heights – ?
WCS – about the same
AC – Weaker
Andover – Weaker
Newton – Much Stronger
Valley Center – Much Stronger
Goddard – Stronger
Maize – about the same to slightly better
Maize South – Stronger
Salina South – Weaker
Derby – same to slightly better
Cheney – Same
GP – ?
These are my predicted trends for each team. Care to weigh in for fun???
VB fanatic– good thoughts.. here are a few changes in my opinion (not saying you’re wrong at all)
Kapaun – weaker – w/o Grant and Helena.. we’ll see how the backups are
heights – better.. although they lost a few.. whitten is back and will be a year more developed
wcs – worse.. but not much. without both starting OHs and their setter.. could be tough to replace.
vc – better. agreed. looking forward to watching them play!
derby – i think a little worse.. we’ll see
cheney – how many did they lose to graduation?
gp- if they can play w/o their two best and still have patterson at L.. can’t get anything but better
northwest – ?
Does anyone know when all state teams are released?
Cheney loses one of their 6 footers and a couple of solid role players. They still have Quick and another good player coming back.
Didn’t Kapaun have a good freshman this year, she’ll help next year offset some loses to grad.
Basically, if you look at the vball teams that had majority of their production coming from FR, Soph’s and Jr’s, rule of thumb those should be strong teams in 2010.
It will be interesting to see how WCS, Andover Central & BC do next year after losing one great player and in BC’s case a whole bunch of talented Seniors. My thoughts are:
WCS: Currently has a lot in the pipeline with regards to talented under classmen. Should be dominant again in 3A
AC: Losing Banwart will drop this team down some. However, they had some good Soph’s this year that will get more opportunities next year to shine. We’ll see how they do. I think AC joins a stronger league next year so the comp level will be harder perhaps too?
BC: I think they are do for a noticeable drop. You can’t lose that many talented players and still maintain the same level of play. Also, I’ve noticed BC doesn’t seem to play many FR & Soph’s at the varsity level…I could be wrong.
I would really like to see the Wichita area teams coming up to KC to play. The increased competition levels would make all of the local teams better. As to BC, losing lots of starters isn’t necessarily a death knell. With lots of depth, the FR & Sophs who didn’t have a spot at the Varsity level may be able to fill in without losing a beat. St. James lost its first class of seniors last year (including three D1 athletes) and came back to repeat.
If AC would run a 5-1 and keep their best players on the floor they will be just fine. Wichita area high schools all need to step-up with back row offense if they want to compete with the Kansas city teams.
