East guard Jalen Love fractured his index finger on his non-shooting hand at the Dodge City tournament. Coach Ron Allen expects Love to be back in about four weeks — right before the postseason.
The accident was a freak one, to be sure.
Allen, who has watched it several times on video, said it happened like this: Love was going up to tip in a miss. His teammate, who had shot the ball, was falling back after going up for the shot. As the shooter fell back, his head hit Jalen’s finger.
Losing Love won’t be easy for East. But this team does have quite a bit of depth, especially at guard.
As Heights found out when Evan Wessel was lost for a month to start the season, it can help your team as other players are put in position to develop and showcase their game. Of course, that’s the positive way of looking at it, and those East players must make sure that’s what they do.
But I’m always optimistic, and I think that will be the case here.
