Here is a list of Wichita-area wrestlers who won the consolation bracket (for third place) or are wrestling in tonight’s finals:

The Class 4A state tournament is all but over.
Clay Center leads with 125. Valley Center is in second with 106.5, while Andale is third with 99.
Before the consolation finals, VC led by seven points, but didn’t have anybody wrestling for third place. On the flipside, Clay Center had four wrestlers in the con. finals and two came away with third place medals.

9:30 p.m. _ What a day of wrestling. What a day. It’s always exciting, but this year seemed to be more so.
There was Derby taking the lead after an excellent backside showing, there was Goddard taking the team title after three of its four finalists won their matches. That’s three straight for Goddard and four in five years. Not bad, huh?
Goddard got wins from Kaleb Bonilla (103), Trey Houlden (140) and Dalton Beard (189).
Derby took second, 1.5 points behind Goddard. Of the Panthers’ two finalists, neither won.
Heights took third. Daniel Deshazer won his second title with a victory at 125.

Brooks Seeley is passing this along: Bishop Carroll boys won their 5-1A bowling regional, while Augusta finished second.
Girls bowling is about to start.
Any other results? Feel free to share.

My colleague (OK, boss) Joanna Chadwick just said, “Hey, Jeff, can you start a 5A blog?” I’m game for that, but today at the tournament has been sort of a cluster so far, so I’m still trying to sort everything out. I don’t have a lot of good inside information for everybody yet, but it appears that the Wichita-area teams are playing for second, at least for second at the end of day one.

State wrestling begins today! Check out the stories we have on area wrestlers, including Heights’ Daniel Deshazer, and Valley Center, returning champs, and the new rules at the Intrust Bank Arena. Can you believe there was an original plan to not allow the fans to come in and out of the arena without paying for another ticket? But logic prevailed!
So what’s on your mind today? Basketball sub-states? League titles? Turnaround seasons?

So where were you tonight?
East beat Northwest, Heights beat South, Andale beat Rose Hill by one.
Andover Central girls beat Buhler, but Tiffany Bias broke a pinkie finger. She’ll play through it.
