Longtime assistant football coach John Dawkins died on Sunday. Check Bob Lutz’s terrific column. I’ve heard some great stories about Dawkins, who was an assistant at Collegiate and Southeast, among others.
I just went back and read a story that Bob Lutz wrote in 1995. I couldn’t find it online, but trust me, it was excellent.

The softball season is at the midway point (OK, not exactly, but you get my point). So it’s a perfect time to get your thoughts on who should be the All-Metro players and the All-Metro coach. All-Metro comes from a three-county area — Sedgwick, Harvey and Butler.
Please tell me why you think a specific player should be All-Metro. It certainly aids in the discussion.
Three current players were on the 2009 All-Metro team — Sydney Stuever, Andale; Haley McGregor, Independent; and Shelby Davis, Goddard.

We’re at the midpoint of the season (OK, not exactly), so I’m looking for your ideas on who should be on the All-Metro soccer team.
Several players from the 2009 All-Metro team are back, including Kapaun’s Caroline Kastor, Maize’s Miranda Holmes and Heights’ Rebekah Ramstack.

I want to know where you will be this week. What event has you planning everything, including your work schedule/entertainment schedule, around the start time?
Here are a few events to get you started:

So what’s on your mind today? Is it the fact that this spring has been wonderful weather-wise? Is it that the games have been actually going on, for the most part, as scheduled?
We’re already starting postseason this week — City League tennis is Saturday. Anyone else surprised at how fast spring sports are going?

I was intrigued to see Heights get a big win over Kapaun. The City League has shaped up nicely for girls soccer — Kapaun, Carroll, Northwest and Heights. Not a bad group of teams, huh?
So what’s on your mind about soccer this week? The season is winding down, so you must have developed some thoughts on area teams.
Rankings are below.

It’s another new week of tennis, and we have league tourneys coming up. The City League tennis meet is on Saturday.
So what matchups will be key this week? Who’s playing particularly well? Who’s the best coach in tennis?
Below are the rankings.

Well, I’m back. Back from a trip to Minnesota to see my niece get married. Absolutely lovely. And what do I come back to? An absolutely lovely day in Wichita. Can’t beat it.
So what’s on your mind today? Anyone watching NBA playoffs? How about the Thunder and the LakersĀ tied at two games apiece?
I’m sitting in my living room watching the NBA playoffs and trying to put off going to do laundry when I see Amare Stoudemire dunk over about three Portland defenders. After I finished laughing, I remembered how much I love and miss high school dunks. They are far less frequent than in the college and NBA games. That’s what makes them a little more exciting and meaningful. Anyone care to share some favorite high school dunking moments or highlight plays from any other sport?
