McPherson senior Adam Porter won the Class 5A 1600 meters for the second straight year. Porter, who won the 3200 on Friday, still has the 800 to go today.

As per Porter’s usual strategy, he used his tremendous kick to beat Hays’ Josh Munsch and Bishop Carroll’s David Thor.

Porter swept the 800, 1600 and 3200 in 2009.

One of the best 5A- 1600m I have seen in awhile. Just a little over .5 seconds seperating 1st from third. Porter 4:23.11, Munsch 4:23.52, and Thor 4:23.69. Probably the most exciting of the larger class 1600m. They all three battled it out again later in the 800m with similar results Porter 1:54.97, Thor 1:55.37, Munsch 1:55.54.

Congratulation to Sklayr Gutierrez (SE) 3rd place in 6A- 1600m and Daniel Herbert (NW) 6A- 800m Champion.

The Wichita City league is losing some truly great athletes this season. They will all be missed. I think one of the reasons you saw the Wichita kids pull so strong at State was the weekly battles between Robbie Martinez Garcia, Daniel Herbert, Skylar Gutierrez, and David Thor. Those kids all gave their all at State really performed. The only one left is Thor, who is really going to be something to watch, but he will have little in the way of competition to push him over his next two years. He will have to seek competition outside of the GWAL. Best of luck in the future years to the graduating seniors. Thanks for the exciting races this year. The best we have seen in a VERY long time!
