I can’t believe this high school sports season is finished. Friday and Saturday are two of my longest days, but they are some of the most rewarding. What a way to finish.

The area did it right, too, with multiple teams placing, and we had so many track champs and so many teams playing for state titles. Congrats to Maize softball and Andale-Garden Plain softball for winning their state titles.

It’s been an excellent year, and I’d love to know what your favorite memories are.

Mine included watching Northwest pitcher Mac Millspaugh’s perfect game, Blake Bell, Tiffany Bias, Perry Ellis. I’ve seen so many great athletes and wonderful games. It’s been quite the sports season.

Maize High School Sports were great this year…State Tournament in both Boys and Girls basketball, State playoffs in Football, State Title in Girls softball, State runner up in baseball, 3rd place boys soccer. Great athletes in this years senior class with a good number of them going on to play in college. Kudos to MHS and the 2010 Senior Class! You will be missed….

When will Maize hire a new basketball coach for next season?

  • Record Breaker

Nothing could top Hutch’s record breaking 6th straight football championship.

  • Southpaw

How about those Collegiate Spartans? State Championships in football, volleyball, basketball, golf, and tennis. Has there been a group of athletes that have dominated as many sports in one year?

  • Lushous Lou

Hutch’s 6th straight title was extremely impressive anybody think they can go for 7? As was collegiate as a whole. I hate to be a homer but how about Derby football. They lost all but 1 starter on offense and that was a lineman and made it 1 yard from the state championship game. I wouldn’t be suprised to see them in the same situation again next year. Also Maize baseball proved yet again its a powerhouse.

  • Tracklife

How about Goddard wrestling after losing several seniors from last year winning a third straight State Title.

  • JJFlash2b

Heard Maize already has their new basketball coach.

The Wichita Thunder a U17 Boys Club Soccer team just got back from the Nike College Showcase in Denver over Memorial Day weekend winning all their games against some top teams Nationally. The Thunder, being a team comprised of some of the top area 17 year old soccer players locally and from around the area, showed well at this College Showcase.

My best memories are going to be seeing a Dad at state softball tournament, hug his daughter after she had an amazing tournament and year, even though he is a extremly soft hearted father who tries to hide it. An amazing sight that brought a tear to my eyes. Another, the joy that hard work provides. Thanks to all these girls who provide us so much entertainment.

Crack, which post, there were so many?

BC boys 4th in swimming. OF COURSE!

Medicine Lodge girls SB 3rd place in 3A – YEAH!!!

We were in Colwich Saturday evening, at the veterans memorial, and this NOISY busload of screaming girls came by. I assume that was the softball team. I turned to my son and said “I guess they beat Carroll.” :o)

My guess all along has been that Asst Coach Shetler would get the head job after Grill left. Not sure it has been announced or if it is even true. Just my 2 cents.

  • JJFlash2b

I know who…but I’m not a telling! On comment about who got the Maize Boy’s Basketball coaching job.

  • JJFlash2b

I’m not a telling, but I know who got the Maize Boy’s head coaching job!

  • JJFlash2b

Had to say it twice to let you know, I know who, but I won’t tell about the new Maize Boy’s Basketball coach.

  • Record Breaker

I know who is not getting the job. JJFlash2b, Joanna, Crack, and that squirrel that just got ran over.

  • JJFlash2b

    You sure about that?

  • whatup

Heard it was the boys soccer coach who got the job. Darrah?

  • Record Breaker

Yeah, I am sure that squirrel isn’t gonna be doing much from here on out.

Congratulations to all student athletes and their achievements. I did notice that only one private school was mentioned as having championships. Maybe all the hoopla over private schools winning too many should be given a second look. Maize, Andale, etc. good for you.

  • SECFAN

    SouthPaw–
Yes there has been athletes like collegiate had in the past that have dominated in one school all across the country in PRIVATE SCHOOLS!!!! Go to Louisiana where John Curtis High School won the 4A State Football Championship with a 2A enrollment 8 out of 10yrs, Look at Evangel Christian in Shreveport, won 5 State Football Titles in a row, three at 5A and two at 2A with a 1A enrollement (under 250 students). I can keep going on if you would like with my examples of how PRIVATE schools cheat and recruit kids for their success without there being any thing done about it. Oh unless you go to Texas where they can’t play in the Public School Playoff system so they get to compete against each other in both winning and recruiting…..makes me sick to hear you all bragg about your success in private schools. I will love it when KSHSAA puts you guys in a play off system of your own!!!!!!!!!

  • Another Idiot

Hear that Garden Plain and Conway. If you win, then you are cheating.

I just saw on the sports page that Darrah got the MHS head Bball job. I am stunned at that. Why would he get it over Shetler (assuming Shetler was interested) is beyond me. I don’t know when the last time he coached basketball was but this is a stunner to me.
