It looks to be a quiet sports week this week, what with LeBron finally telling us his future team and Spain winning over the Netherlands in a fantastic game.

Props to the Mustangs, who, according to an e-mail I received, won the weekend OKC Gold qualifier and will be playing in the national tournament later this summer.  They went undefeated and join the KC Peppers in the Big Dance as the two teams from Kansas.

Any other teams you want to update us on?

What’s on your mind today?

Thank goodness they won so they could avoid having to strip down to their skivvies to turn their uniforms in like the 14 year old team had to do after losing a tournament.

Wichita was well represented in Tulsa this past weekend. Team Kansas (Tyrone Berry), and Kansas Select (David Swank, Brian Miller) played well with select making it to the quarterfinals. Also, the city league and surrounding area kids played well. The 17 under championship was won by KC Pump N Run who received major contributions from Mcphersons Christian Ulsaker and Wichita East High’s Ja’ln Williams. From a toughness standpoint, they are definatly the heart and soul of that team.

I have read several entries on this site about the Mustang organization and always told myself I would hold my tongue until I had seen it in person. My daughter’s team played against them at USSSA West State- in one game, they had two coaches kicked out (and they made huge jerks of themselves-even telling one of our parents to shut the F up because he was trying to get the coach to settle down because he almost punched the umpire!) the coaches were not allowed to return to the tournament. The following evening their third coach was ejected from the game. Talked to the tournament director who stated that there are tournaments that are considering turning away Mustang teams because of their consistant poor sportsmanship and behavior issues. Me personally, I am wondering how they as parents can condone the bahavior and let their children be part of this type of organization? Our team beat both of the Mustang teams in that tournament, and every other tournament we have played them in this year- I understand that they probablly place the most D-1 players than any other organization in this area…but at what price- as a parent, is it really worth it? Saw it in person, or I wouldn’t have commented…not impressed!

  • i hear ya

They also had at least one coach ejected from the 12B ASA tournament…. witnessed it….. I have also heard about the story with the 14 year old team. They were told to take their uniforms off and turn them in on the spot, the coaches were fired….. of course in a day or two “HE” was calling and apologizing to all involved and the sad thing is the parents let their kids go back and those coaches went back… i swear people have no morals….

I was in attendance in OKC on Saturday to watch my granddaughter play for the Mustangs. This was my first time to see them. I was impressed by the way the girls handled themselves and they are a bunch of great young ladies. They played hard, never gave up and the entire coaching staff did an excellent job. I feel my granddaughter is getting a great opportunity to see parts of the country she might have never enjoyed and learning life lessons having to live with other girls on the road. I think Wichita should embrace this team and not be so cynical to miss the good points about this organization.

  • ?????

Hey gramps. Would it be okay if he made your daughter strip her uniform off with nothing else to put on in it’s place? If so, you are forsaking her well being for an opportunity. Very wrong.

Hey ?????????????? if you witnessed this behavior or if I had seen that I would have pulled my daughter from the program and demanded my money back- not just be complaining on here. I can only tell you what I saw with the 18u girls last Sat and I am a grandparent so i don’t control the decisions of the parents but thanks for your useless commentary anyway

Kgrandpa- glad your granddaughter is having a positive experience with the organization. Like I said, I can only comment on what I saw at the games I was a spectator at. True like any organization you cannot lump all participants into one sterotype, however it sure doesn’t help their image any. We are headed to USSSA “B” Nationals in KC this weekend, and they will be there. I hope they can just play ball and leave their drama at home!

  • ???????

So even though you know it happens as long as you don’t “see” it it’s o.k.? Just put your blinders on along with everyone else in that god forsaken place and everything will be o.k.

I had to read your post twice to get the full meaning of it. I enjoy reading what you have to say. It’s unfortunate that more people do not comprehend the benefits of coaching. Keep up the good work.
