1:30 p.m. — Trinity’s Morgan Burns wins the 4A 100, Valley Center’s Joe Fisher wins the 5A 100, South Haven’s Blake Wilkey wins his second title of the day (1A long jump), El Dorado wins the 3200 relay for the second straight year, Chaparral’s Sione Siale wins his second title (shot put), Hutchinson Trinity’s Michael Mesh wins the 3A 100 and Heights’ Taylor Cross wins the 6A triple jump.
12:05 p.m. — Bob Lutz’s story today on Peabody-Burns sprinter Lauren Pickens is heart-warming. Definitely check it out. http://bit.ly/lWifmp
11:45 a.m. — Check out the video below of the infield before the 3200 relays. Also, check out the stands — there are so many people here.
11:30 a.m. — David Scheer is the man. He’s one of the officials on the track, and after every race, he tells every single athlete good job. Compliments them, urges them to drink water, to keep moving. He’s the most positive person ever. I like him so much that I made sure to find out his name.
10:25 a.m. –It’s a brisk, chilly morning here at Cessna Stadium. If you’re not wearing some kind of coat, you’re likely uncomfortable.
There was already excitement, though, when Gardner-Edgerton’s Casey Bowen tried for 17-0 in the Class 5A pole vault competition. He had gone 17-1 earlier in the season. He topped out at 16-6, but it was fun to watch. It gave him the 5A record, beating former Gardner-Edgerton’s Isaac Mallory’s 16-3.
Area champs already are Campus’ Garrett Cantrell in the 6A javelin, South Haven’s Blake Wilkey in the 1A 110 hurdles, Berean Academy’s Tim Gallegos in the 2A 110 hurdles.
