I’m covering the Shrine Bowl in Hays today – we’re about 30 minutes from kickoff and I’ll be live-blogging and tweeting the whole affair. Here’s Joanna Chadwick’s article on the Campus safety and Hutch CC signee Devran Cochran of the West squad that ran Friday and here’s mine on the mass exodus from the East squad that ran today. Keep checking back in here or twitter.com/t_adame for updates.

FIRST QUARTER

The West just ate up seven minutes of clock in the first quarter … and still had to punt from around midfield. Still 0-0 with 1:30 left in first. END 0–0

SECOND QUARTER

Beautiful, darting 20-yard run by W. Trinity’s Morgan Burns after a shanked punt gives West the ball 1st and goal at East’s 10-yard line, Dreamius Smith moves ball to 1 … West coach Rick Wheeler calls an out route and Greg Hildebrand is intercepted by the East’s Sam Olberding at the 1.

West got the ball back pretty quickly and this time they convert as Hutch Trinity’s Derek Racette runs in from 2 yards out … Racette also runs in 2-point conversion. 8-0 West, 6:04 left in 2nd quarter.  WEST LEADS 8-0 AT HALFTIME

THIRD QUARTER

Racette fumbles at his own 40-yard line and East gets the ball back with 8:12 left in 3rd quarter   … but they can’t do anything with it.

West gets ball back around midfield, Terrell Lane hits for 47-yd run and then Dreamius Smith goes in from 10 yards out on the next play for 14-0 lead w/ 5 minutes left in 3rd quarter. Racette finds Kellen Hernandez for 66-yard touchdown pass to make score 20-0.

FOURTH QUARTER

Getting ugly. West goes up 28-0 on 1-yd TD run from Norton’s Terrell Lane. 10 mins left to play.

WEST WINS 30-7 FOR SIXTH STRAIGHT VICTORY OVER EAST
