Ottawa senior Semi Ojeleye, an all-state player in March, made an oral commitment to play at Duke.

Ojeleye had an in-home visit with Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski and assistant Steve Wojciechowski on Sunday night, and then committed then.

I talked with Ottawa coach Jon McKowen this morning. Check out what he said Ojeleye did after the in-home visit.

Coach McKowen praised Ojeleye for staying humble throughout the recruiting process.

“He’s still in the gym every day like he’s not going to make the high school basketball team,” McKowen said. “He’s putting in numerous hours there.”

So after the visit with Coach K, Ojeleye went to the gym by about 8 p.m. to get in his time because he hadn’t had a chance earlier in the day.

“I asked him, ‘Do you feel like you’ve hit the end, are you less motivated?” McKowen said. “He said, ‘absolutely not. There’s so many people who say I can’t play at the next level, that I’m not good enough.’ He finds inner motivation. He’s extremely motivated.”

Ojeleye had narrowed his list down to four schools — Duke, Stanford, Oregon and Indiana.

Now I have a question — Can you think of a Kansan who played at Duke? On scholarship? Let me know either here or at jchadwick@wichitaeagle.com.
