I’ve written plenty of times about district football and what coaches would like to change, but I want to know what you fans want to change. Do you prefer 8-team districts? Going to the playoffs based on overall record? Keep it the same?

E-mail me at jchadwick@wichitaeagle.com and I may use your ideas in a story.

They should do it like soccer and some of the other sports and group them by region, then by rank so number 1 vs. number 8 in a 1 and done. Then the winner of the region moves on the quarterfinals. Whoever came up with this regional play is a joke. Granite it adds a extra game or 2 so they can make money but it is not a true playoff format. In fact, it’s more like international soccer, where they have pool play to get in the playoffs. Kind of ironic the 2 sports playoff formats are switched. I guess it comes down to the Benjamin’s. At least in soccer you are rewarded for your regular-season record so you can host home games. Not so in football. Oh well. So sad. Too bad.

64 Teams in a Class = 8 Districts of 8 Teams.  Drop Leagues, 3 Non District Games + 7 Game District Schedule.  That puts 16 teams in the playoffs per class which equals a 4 week playoff.  Eliminate the ridiculous small school play off schedule that does nothing but harm kids having to possibly play 3 games in 8 days.

    Re district every 2 years.

I like your proposal, including the 10th regular season game. One of the inequities of the current Kansas system, partially, but not completely, addressed by your plan, is the full extra month of practice and games some of the playoff teams get, compared the non-playoff teams. This helps to perpetuate a system in which the same teams are strong and weak, year after year. By the time he’s through, a Hutch high school player has 52 games. A West high school player has 36. The difference is huge, and there is no other high school sport with any kind of parallel to it in terms of percentage of extra games, or extra time in practice and competition.
